My PET scan is scheduled for January 20th. The results will help my medical team assess my response to treatment and guide next steps in care, including an updated prognosis. Until then, I’m still in a recovery window.
The doctor explained that the aftereffects of chemo and radiation often last around four weeks, though the nursing staff has shared that for many people it can take closer to six weeks for things to begin leveling out. I’m now right around that six-week mark since my last round of treatment, and I’m hopeful that some relief is coming soon.
I also want to be honest that these past weeks have been difficult. Swallowing has been challenging, my appetite has been low, and I’ve dealt with bouts of nausea and vomiting, along with the fatigue that comes with treatment. Some days are harder than others, but I’m taking things one day at a time and focusing on healing.
For now, the priority is rest and recovery as I move toward the scan. I would truly appreciate prayers in the weeks ahead. For those who are able and feel called to help in that way, GoFundMe donations continue to make a meaningful difference and are deeply appreciated.
Thank you for continuing to keep me in your thoughts and for all the support you’ve shown. I’ll share another update after the scan.
PS - Today marks nine years sober and I want to thank both my posse at home as well as here in Kansas City. I can’t tell you guys how much it means to me to have somebody that I can call in either state anytime I need to. Thank you for walking this path with me.
Also, thank you to my family, especially my sister that lives here in Kansas City. It’s such a blessing and I hear from my other sister in Denver often so I’m very grateful for that too.
Thank you
Mike
